Wie schon ihr Vater will die Zirkusunternehmerin Leni Peickert (Hannelore Hoger) artistische Höchstleistungen erbringen. Zugleich empfindet sie Natürlichkeit als ihr Ideal. Hannelore Hoger (Lost Award of Katharina Blum), veteran actress of the New German Movie theatre, stars as Leni Peickert in Alexander Kluge s compelling parable almost fine art vs. entertainment, culture vs. commerce. Leni inherits the family circus after her father is killed while practicing a hard deed. Feeling that small-fourth dimension carnivals are on their mode out, she updates the show past turning it into a reform circus, which consists of socially relevant entertainment. Unfortunately, it fails to attract customers, and her circus goes bankrupt twice. The story of Leni and her woes is slight but the strength of Kluge s film is the circuitous imagery, with its masterful montages, filmic references, and layers of pregnant. Like the circus in the picture show, Kluge finds pop film likewise to exist in the throes of modify a viewpoint that turned out to be prophetic.
